Junior Scientist - Muscle Tissue Engineer

We're working on a challenging and incredibly exciting mission: to bring cultured meat to market. To do this, a crucial part is creating muscle tissue of sufficient maturity to serve as substrate for consumable meat. As part of our friendly and dedicated Muscle Tissue Production team, you'll have the opportunity to earn your PhD while working at a dynamic start-up company.

Your responsibilities:

- Conduct cell and tissue culture of skeletal muscle organoids towards functional, morphological and proteomic optimisation

- Work creatively on various strategies, including cell selection, cell (co)culture, cell-biomaterial interaction and maturation approaches

- Perform cell culture studies and biological assays

- Collaborate with postdocs, PhDs and other technicians, overseen by the Chief Scientific Officer

What we're looking for:

- Master's degree in Cell Biology, Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Bioengineering or related field

- Knowledge and experience in skeletal muscle cell biology in in vitro settings

- Prior experience with biomaterials fabrication and characterisation

- Prior experience with electrospinning and other processing techniques to fabricate biomaterials/scaffolds

- Experience in hydrogel synthesis and characterisation

- Enthusiastic about working in a commercial setting in a start-up

- Ability to design, plan and execute your experiments independently, and demonstrate critical thinking in your analysis of the data

- Results-driven, with a capacity for applied research to achieve specific goals

- Excellent organisational skills, time management and structured method of working

- A proactive team player

- Good verbal and written communication skills (minimum B2 level English)

- Industry experience (preferable)

- Ability to commence soon (preferable)
