Applying the latest tools of biotechnology, we are creating a new type of materials company. As we continue to grow, we are seeking a Health, Safety & Environment Manager to join a growing team. This position will be responsible for the overall safety program of the company and developing a proactive and positive safety culture.


- Provide EHS leadership and guidance for a rapidly growing company with a diversity of experience levels and disciplines.

- Keep up-to-date with new and evolving federal, state, local and industry standards - including OSHA and EPA.

- Execute EHS program management tasks including monthly laboratory inspections, Central Accumulation Area, and Satellite Accumulation Area inspections, action item follow up, chemical inventory maintenance, monthly company EHS training and lead the monthly Safety Committee, Onboarding training, and Steering Committee monthly meetings.

- Lead the company in EHS industry best practices development as their operations continue to grow and change.

- Establish laboratory, Pilot and Manufacturing safety policies and practices by acting as a change agent for the implementation of a behavioral based safety culture.

- Collaborate with Scientists, Engineers, and the team to understand work practices and their impact on safety.

- Develop a people focused safety culture by working hand in hand regularly with all team members.

- Maintain safety culture by developing new EHS initiatives, sending out regular communication to employees on EHS updates.

- Conduct Industrial Hygiene surveys, sampling, and reporting.

- Track and investigate near miss reports.

- Act as a safety resource to manage subtle changes in laboratory practices and for planning new laboratory work.

- Respond to emergencies and incidents as the EHS expert, follow up on events with incident investigation, and implement company-wide changes based on root cause investigation findings.

- Investigate, recommend and implement staff safety training and training programs.

- Work with teams to evaluate upcoming processes and recommend all actions necessary to protect employees and comply with regulations.

- Ensure lab users receive training and retraining on laboratory equipment as necessary.


- Bachelors or master’s degree in biology, Chemistry, Safety or related field.

- 6+ years of laboratory, manufacturing or industrial health and safety experience.

- CSP Certification required, CIH preferred.

- Extensive knowledge of EH&S regulations at federal and state level (OSHA, GHS, etc.) in either a laboratory or pilot facility environment.

- Strong people skills are a must.

- Experience with Process Safety Management a plus.

- Prior experience developing and implementing safety policies for an R&D organization.

- Passionate about developing a behavioral and people based safety culture, considering people’s workspace needs and practices.

- Possesses good organizational, communication & computer skills.

- High degree of personal accountability, with the ability to work independently and deliver results within project specific timelines.

- Self-motivated, passionate about your work, and enthusiastic about contributing to building a positive team spirit.
