Senior Director, Food Science

As the Sr. Director, Food Science, you will be a key member of our R&D leadership team directing all aspects of food product related research and development, working cross functionally and collaboratively with our culinary chefs, protein chemists, process engineers, quality specialists, and regulatory group, ensuring creation of high quality and safe food products.

As the leader of the Food Science group, you will be responsible for managing, developing and cultivating your team to foster this culture of cross-functional collaboration and innovative thinking.

Responsibilities

- Lead and manage Food Sciences group, providing technical guidance and subject matter expertise in developing protein-based food products

- Engage and assist in all aspects of product creation, scale-up, manufacturing and product maintenance

- Define strategy on new product development and continuous improvement of existing product categories – from technical feasibility to implementation

- Collaborate closely with product development, protein chemistry, process sciences, engineering, quality assurance and regulatory teams to ensure successful completion of tasks

- Work closely with product management group to ensure timelines are developed and up to date, project status communicated to stakeholders, and risks and dependencies highlighted

- Establish external collaborations and partnerships to further product R&D

- Continue to build and develop the Food Science team ensuring cross training and professional development while guiding and assisting them to tackle hurdles. Build a culture among team members of ownership, sound science-based work, and customer focused development

- Work with the leadership team to implement and improve programs aligned with company goals streamlining cross-functional collaboration

- Identify and engage in events and publication opportunities to build company network and stature in the professional community

- Encourage and drive invention

About You

Education & Experience

- PhD in Food Science, Chemical Engineering or related field

- 10+ years of relevant industry experience and an established track record of accomplishments

- Experience launching high quality, consumer focused food products; experience leading novel products from concept to launch is a plus

Skills and Qualifications

- Proven ability to align all product development activities to company goals and maintain a very high standard for product efficacy, quality and safety

- Creativity and knowledge in all areas of product creation including the ability to conceptualize, develop and implement product innovation programs

- Willing to execute both hands-on and leadership activities

- Results-focused and date-driven, able to contextualize company mission into concrete and deliverable goals

- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple demands and objectives with aggressive deadlines

- Exceptional communication and demonstrated people managing and leadership skills
