Research Associate / Senior Research Associate, Cell Culture

At Geltor we design award-winning ingredients for the world's biggest consumer product companies. Geltor is looking for a RESEARCH ASSOCIATE / SR. RESEARCH ASSOCIATE to join our Cell Culture team in San Leandro, CA.

The RA/SRA will play a key role in designing/executing cell culture-based assays and developing new in vitro platforms to evaluate our proprietary proteins. This position offers the opportunity for a self-motivated and detail-oriented Research Associate/Senior Research Associate with a strong background in mammalian cell culture to join a collaborative, enthusiastic, dynamic fast-paced team that is sustainably creating animal proteins without the animals. This role reports to our Cell Culture Scientist. Level will be commensurate with experience.

Key Responsibilities:

- Culture mammalian cell culture lines and primary cells

- Perform cell-based assays to evaluate viability, protein production (ELISAs and western blot), gene expression analysis (qRT-PCR), and other functional/molecular biology assays

- Analyze cells using live imaging and fluorescence microscopy

- Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot new cell-based assays

- Collect and analyze data, and maintain a detailed and organized laboratory notebook

- Present data internally on a weekly basis

- Lead by example, champion Geltor, and uphold company values


- BS or MS in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, related field or equivalent

- Experience in an industry/academic lab environment (position level commensurate with experience)

- Strong expertise in mammalian cell culture systems (preferably with primary human cells) and common cell-based functional assays and molecular biology techniques

- Experience with live cell imaging and fluorescence microscopy

- Strong organizational skills with the ability to effectively prioritize and complete projects amidst tight timelines and competing deadlines; exceptional attention to detail

- Ability to conduct experiments, evaluate and interpret results, and solicit help when needed

- Ability to maintain detailed experimental documentation

- Proficiency with common software (MS Word, Excel, etc.); experience with graphing and analysis software a plus (Prism, ImageJ, etc.)

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to discuss technical concepts within the team
