Product Formulation Scientist

At Geltor we design award-winning ingredients for the world's biggest consumer product companies. Geltor is looking for a PRODUCT FORMULATION SCIENTIST to join our Research & Development team in San Leandro, CA.

The Product Formulation Scientist will utilize Geltor’s hero ingredient to create exceptional formulation for food, nutritional, and cosmetic products. They will lead a small team to develop new and innovative products.

Key responsibilities:

- Formulate and develop new and innovative products and concepts for skin, hair and nutrition to demonstrate Geltor ingredients to share with customers

- Provide guidance on new product formulations

- Perform Texture Analysis

- Writes procedures, protocols and specifications needed to support product development activities.

- Make small batches of formulations to evaluate internally and send to customers

- Support new product launches and inquiries from customers by providing relevant data and expertise

- Manage projects by planning, designing, and conducting experiments working closely with both R&D and commercial teams. Looking for innovative product concepts

- Stay ahead of trends in the cosmetic and nutrition fields, build depth of understanding and share new product concept approaches with the team.

- Develop creative solutions and think ‘outside’ the box

- Bachelor’s degree with 7+ years of experience OR Masters degree with 5+ years OR Ph.D. with 2+ years of industry experience in consumer goods with cosmetics or food

- Strong understanding of the beauty and nutrition consumer and ability to translate consumer needs, macro trends and the latest technology trends into novel products with unique selling proposition

- Experience leading junior scientist

- Successfully developed consumer products for foods or nutritionals

- Experience developing products from concept to commercialization, including: Writing and documenting formulas and specifications; Creating Standard Operating Procedures (SOP); Applying a quantitative approach to formulation; Prior experience running sensory panels is nice to have

- Experience implementing test protocols for sensory and shelf life studies

- Demonstrated experience in applied flavor chemistry

- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects well

- Experience with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

- Experience with Smartsheets or similar software

- Strong organizational skills with the ability to effectively prioritize and complete high quality projects amidst tight timelines and competing deadlines; exceptional attention to detail

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to discuss complex technical concepts with a variety of audiences
