Director of Business Development

Clara Foods

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

FLSA Status: Exempt, full-time

Role and Responsibilities:

- Define Clara Foods’ commercial strategy

- Lead Sales, Business Development, Marketing, and Technical Support functions

- Develop, implement and deliver on an aggressive annual sales plan

- Own customer segmentation, account selection, product, positioning, and pricing decisions

- Challenge the status quo of long sales cycles, take measured risk, and knock down barriers that impede growth

- Structure, negotiate and close deals with new and existing commercial partners

- Develop and leverage a broad network across the B2B food and beverage industry

- Create a marketing strategy that drives mass-market adoption of animal-free proteins

- Partner cross-functionally and externally to operationalize a lean, reliable, and safe supply chain

- Institutionalize scalable processes, systems and capabilities that drive efficiency and accountability

- Hire, retain and develop the right talent to achieve the organization’s commercial objectives

- Identify innovative, market-driven opportunities to expand the product pipeline


- 8+ years of experience in sales, business development, management consulting, and/or private equity

- Leadership experience at a high-growth startup in the biotechnology, food, and/or agribusiness sector

- MBA or Master’s degree in a management, technical, or engineering field

- Ability to engage and influence cross-functional partners to gain alignment on initiatives and deliverables

- Strong organizational and prioritization skills under tight and competing deadlines

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills that can influence a wide variety of audiences

- Capacity to communicate strategically and technically with board member and investors

- Mission-driven, resourceful, team-oriented, and low-ego with a positive attitude
